JOIN THE FREE AND QUALITATIVE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN IN NIGERIA

NIGERIA EDUCATION FIRST INITIATIVE (NEFI) is an advocacy project initiated by Eagle Builders Foundation in response to global advocacy and support of Education for All. NEFI is aim at mobilizing young people across the 36 states and FCT to facilitate Free, Compulsory and Qualitative Education for all Nigerian children irrespective of ethnic group, religion and sex. The campaign will raise awareness on the benefit of education and the need for all Nigerian kids to be taken off the street to the classroom.

STRUCTURES OF NEFI
1. National Steering Committee of NEFI is made up of 15 members drawn from NGOs, CSOs, activists, human right Lawyers, education communicators, policy makers, government, private sector, partners organization, etc.

2. STATE WORKING COMMITTEE - There will be a State Working Committee that will work with the National Steering Committee to reinforce strong advocacy on Free and Compulsory Education especially in states that have not done that yet. We will recruit about 5000 Education First Marshal and Volunteers across the entire country to lead this advocacy campaign in partnership with Civil Society Organizations, Non-governmental Organizations, Community based organizations on Education matters until over 10 million children who are on the street are enrolled back to the classroom.

3. State Working Committee will consists of 12 members while LGA will have 5 members including Chairman and Secretary while others will serve as members.

APPOINTMENT OF EDUCATION FIRST MARSHALS, CHAMPIONS AND BRAND AMBASSADORS

As part of Nigeria Education First Initiative to strengthen advocacy on implementation of UBE Act and Free Education Policy in Nigeria, the National Steering Committee of NEFI is recruiting 774 Education First Marshals, Champions and Brand Ambassadors to carry out it activities in the 36 states of the federation, 774 local government areas in the country and Federal Capital Territory.

We have a mandate to ensure that at least 7 million out-of-school children in Nigeria are enrolled in school by 2020. We will visit State Governor, State House of Assembly across the countries, Policy Makers, Human Right Commission, International Organizations, Donor Agencies, etc to ensure that every Nigeria child is in the classroom.
Girls Next Generation (GNG) is a branch of the Nigeria Education First Initiative (NEFI) aim at reinforcing advocacy for girl-child education in Nigeria. It is a national campaign targeting recruiting volunteers and mobilizing fund to ensure that girl education is given priority in the National Education Policy of Nigeria.

Girl Child Education is very important in our society today because previously, the girl child's position was known to only be in the kitchen but those days has gone. The girl child must forge forward and attain the highest level of education.
This project is fully packaged with Girl Next Generation Fund (GNGF), a signature initiative of Eagle Builders Foundation to support the primary and secondary schools of girls under the age of 18 years in Nigeria. The fund will go towards school fees, uniforms, shoes and books. Lets give support to the education of our children. Girls Next Generation (GNG) is looking for young girls and women as Zonal Coordinators, State Coordinators and Local Government Coordinators in the 774 local government areas in Nigeria for the NIGERIA EDUCATION FIRST INITIATIVE campaign. The selected individuals will serve as Nigeria Education First Marshals, Education First Volunteers and Education Brand Ambassadors will be inaugurated to commence operation in their respective states for the campaign to ensure that UBE Act is fully implemented and by 2020, all girl child are enrolled into the classroom.

ISSUES IN GIRL-CHILD EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: IMPLICATIONS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SUPPORT

Girl-child education has become a matter of concern to stakeholders in Nigeria. This study examines the concept of and crucial issues in girl-child education. It identifies socio-cultural patterns, religious misconceptions, poverty, teenage pregnancy and early marriage amongst others as factors militating against the girl-child education. The paper advocates that public and school libraries must begin to play relevant roles and contribute to the eradication of discrimination against women. It outlines the roles public and school libraries must play in order to improve girl-child enrollment in school as well as reduce school drop-out. In order to effectively play their roles, the study suggests that libraries should source for funds from external agencies rather than depend only on their parent institutions/organizations.
